Congratulations to Kimo Alama Keaulana (with Nanea, his veteran stage and studio dog, above) & Lei Hulu for winning two prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for the CD "Hula Lives!"

At the gala Na Hoku Hanohano Awards banquet, "Hula Lives!" won the award for Hawaiian Language Performance and Kimo Alama Keaulana was awarded the coveted Haku Mele Award for his composition "Kinoiki Kekaulike," a mele inoa (name song) for Princess Abigail Kawananakoa.
The Hawai'i Association of Recording Arts' annual version of the Grammy Awards was held Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Coral Ballroom of the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
From music writer and critic John Berger, in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin:
Kimo Alama Keaulana swept the two adjudicated categories, in which the winners are determined by a panel versed in writing poetic Hawaiian. Keaulana's long-awaited album "Hula Lives!" won for Hawaiian Language Performance. "Kinoiki Kekaulike," a song from the album, won in the Haku Mele category.

"Our language is the most beautiful language in the world, and receiving this award is the most beautiful thing that could happen to anyone in this room," Keaulana said as he accepted the Hawaiian Language Performance award.
